It belongs in a museum...

("Bruce" the shark from JAWS)

The last original mold of the original shark from JAWS sits rotting in the sun but on display in a junkyard off of the 5 freeway. All of the "sled sharks" from JAWS were stripped and re-molded for JAWS 2. I'm guessing this shark was a fourth copy made for the original Universal Studios tram ride. From what little I've learned, the owner of the yard knows what he's got in his possession and won't part with it.

I would love to see this properly restored and put on display at Smithsonian.

Pop...

(Top: Painting by Joyce Logan. Middle: Pop and his only great grandson. Bottom: Getting advice from a very wise man on my wedding day, Maui 1997).

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a painting is worth a great deal more. I can't express how touched I was to open a box and find a painting of my grandfather done by the one person who loved him the most, my grandmother. I've never seen this painting before. It is officially my favorite. But it makes me miss him even more.

A very nice gift...

(Paintings by Joyce Logan)

I came home to a big box sitting by the door. My folks surprised me with a box filled with some of my grandmother's paintings. She has always been one of my main inspirations. Unfortunately, she no longer paints.

My grandmother also had an extensive collection of art books which introduced me to the likes of Loomis, Rockwell, Hultgren, and the two Walts (Kelly and Disney) at an early age.

She painted out of love. And she shared her paintings with the people she loved. I thank Dale & Donna for allowing these paintings to make the 3000-mile journey safe and sound.

Ken Mitchroney's BLOG FINK...

("Fink Art" by Ken Mitchroney)

I'm hooked on this blog. Old movies, G-scale trains, full-scale trains, cool cars, and Ed "Big Daddy" Roth artwork. Pure comfort and joy delivered by a talented artist who wears many hats, Ken Mitchroney. My "Fink Link" is on the side.

My father-in-law will love this blog.

Sorry to shamelessly plug the studio I work for, but I'm really proud of the people at Imagi. And I'm really excited about Astro Boy.

Imagekind...

I'm trying an experiment. Will Finn told me about Imagekind, a place where artists can make and sell their own prints and cards. The site looks promising.

You can pick from a wide variety of frames and mattes. (I didn't pick the frame shown above. It's some sort of default image they have).

Kevin has a new look to his website. I can't wait until his Jules Verne prints are available.

My birds...

I'm learning about giclee printing. I don't even know how to say giclee. I'm a few touch-ups away from sending off my first print.

Yogi's Cave at Kings Dominion...

(Yogi's Cave, Kings Dominion by Nemo 434/Flickr.com)

It's hard to find any images of Yogi's Cave online. My family had a bunch of King's Dominion photos. I don't know where they are now. This was a pretty neat attraction. One of my favorites.

Kings Dominion...

(Kings Dominion Souvenir Map - 1978(?))

I found this map on a fantastic pop culture blog that unfortunately no longer exists. I have the same map for the 1982 season. I loved this map as a kid. This park, along with Kings Island (where they shot the Brady Bunch and the Banana Splits titles) were a joint venture between Top Value Enterprises and the Taft Broadcasting Company. The parks changed hands with Paramount and are now owned by Ceder Fair Entertainment.

Hanna-Barbera Land was the coolest place to visit. Now the park features cartoon characters from both Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon.

View-Master : Quick Draw McGraw

(Images Copyright 1961 Hanna-Barbera Productions)

I've saved my favorite set for last. Well... now seeing them all again it's hard to decide for sure. But man, look at that train!!!

That is all that I currently have archived. Perhaps when my scanner starts talking to my computer again, I can preserve more images.

While I'm happy I'm able to save these images in a format to study, there is nothing like seeing them in 3-D through a View-Master.

Martha Armstrong Hand

On Cartoon Brew's comments section, Andrea has posted a link to Martha Armstrong Hand, the person responsible for many of View-Master's animation sculptures.

Thank you Andrea (and Eric Goldberg)!

Thanks again to Cartoon Brew's comments section, I was able to learn a little history about these wonderful View-Master reels.

I scanned these reels a while back. I would love to preserve more only I upgraded my operating system and now my scanner doesn't like my computer. But hey, my iPhone contacts are in sync. Wheeee...

Yogi Bear, Patron of the Arts

Yogi Bear asked Mike Angelo, a great painter, to paint a special portrait of him. Then he shocked everyone with his odd plans for "exhibiting" the portrait to make himself a sensation.

Thank you, Will Finn!

Will lent me his copy of The Ghost and Mr. Chicken cd soundtrack. Vic Mizzy's charming score put me in the right frame of mind to finish my birds (below). I've already got my order in for The Reluctant Astronaut.

You can find these wonderful soundtracks and more!!! at Percepto Records.

Visit Will here. He will take you on a tour of his mind!

Lands on the Moon

Huckleberry Hound assembled his "Huck Special" rocket to beat the Russians to the moon. He zoomed upwards and when his rockets burned out, landed on a strange landscape with craters all around.

5 Birds...

This is the latest pass at my birds. It's color corrected. I need to run a test print, then it is off to become a giant giclee on watercolor stock.

I'm having second thoughts about the diorama version. I'm ready to move on to another illustration. I have a list of what I want to design in my iPhone.

Toucan Project...

I've been chipping away at this bird illustration (please see below) with the intent of using it as a test for printing a giclee print.

Then I got to thinkin' about how much I like shoebox dioramas. So, being one who plans everything out, I've planned this out in a sort of diorama fashion (minus the shoebox).

The LED lights would be schweet, but I also don't want the thing to catch on fire.

Oh well, time to find a scroll saw!
